Edwin Murray MacKay

Edwin Murray McKay was born in Sebewaing and moved with his family to Detroit. He studied at the Detroit Museum of Art School before attending the Académie Julien in Paris, where he studied under Jean Paul Laurens. McKay maintained studios in Paris and New York, though he spent time in Holland and England as well. World War I forced McKay to return to the United States, where he became a designer for General Electric. He also continued taking portrait commissions for prominent Michigan individuals, including Governor Sleeper and several Michigan Supreme Court justices.
