Joshua Risner

BiographyJoshua Adam Risner is an artist based out of Grand Rapids, MI. He grew up in rural central Ohio, working as a sign painter, graphic designer, and creative director before pursuing higher education. Risner received a BFA from Ashland University and an MFA from Kendall College of Art and Design. He has served as the Artist-in-Residence at the Michigan State Capitol since 2016, where he specializes in nineteenth-century, historical portraiture. He is currently working on the Capitol’s Missing Governor’s Project, which aims to fill gaps in the portrait collection by creating new portraits of past Michigan governors in a historical style.
